UNODC DATABASE FOR LAW ENFORCEMENT TRAINING IN EUROPE, WEST AND CENTRAL ASIA

The UNODC Database was established with the objective of enhancing coordination and strengthening the oversight and sustainability of all law enforcement training activities conducted in Europe, West and Central Asia. The Database is implemented within the Drugs Monitoring Platform, which is jointly managed by the Paris Pact Initiative and the Drugs Research Section of UNODC. The Database builds on the knowledge and capacity already developed to monitor data on drug seizures, dismantling of laboratories and arrests made in West and Central Asia in the context of Afghan Opiate Trade. The Database contributes to enhancing the regional cooperation, and the One UNODC concerted approach in interconnecting the sub-regions. Furthermore, the Database is in line with the principle of common and shared responsibility for addressing and countering the world drug problem and ensuring effective delivery of service.

 

The Database is a response to the following member states calls and existing mechanisms within UNODC in relation to law enforcement training:

 

UNODC is currently implementing four main training projects with a classroom teaching approach, including practical on-site sessions, in West and Central Asia under the framework of the Regional Programme for Afghanistan and Neighboring Countries, the Programme for Central Asia and the Country Programme for Afghanistan:

  • Trilateral Partnership between UNODC-Japan-Russia on Improving the Capacity of the National Police of Afghanistan and of Central Asian Countries to Tackle Drug Trafficking.
  • UNODC-Russia Partnership on Counter-Narcotics Training for Central Asia, Afghanistan and Pakistan.
  • NATO-UNODC Partnership for Counter Narcotics Training for Central Asian, Afghan and Pakistani law enforcement officers.
  • Trilateral Partnership between UNODC-Japan-Russia on the Project for Counter Narcotics Canine (K9) unit in Afghanistan.
